James Toseland will be performing with his band Crash on Sunday at the final of the British Superbikes at Brands Hatch. Here at MotoGP World, despite being a fan of Toseland, we’ve never understood what the big fuss was about his band. It’s an interesting paradox – that someone young, with a very cool job, who jets all over the world racing million pound custom motorbikes at 200mph for a living, should at the same time have a very average pub-rock band, belting out middle of the road soft-rock songs. It’s a (comforting) shock to the system to find out that everyone, even those that you look up to, all have at least something that makes them human and capable of gross errors of taste. It’s like finding out that Kate Moss is head of Neighbourhood Watch in her street, or that Samuel L Jackson collects knitting magazines.
JT is possibly the ‘youngest old-person’ (or should that be the ‘oldest-young person’) in MotoGP – which is probably why your mum likes him.
Anyway, if you want to ‘get down’ to some live ‘dad-rock’, then head to Brands Hatch this weekend.
