It looks unlikely that John Hopkins will get to run with the number 21 plate (the same number he carried through MotoGP) on the Stiggy Honda in World Superbikes. The number 21 was used by bike legend Troy Bayliss and was discontinued by World Superbike bosses as a tribute to Bayliss when he retired.
Hopper now looks likely to run with the number 121.
What’s even more surprising is that Hopkin’s could even consider the number 21 to be a lucky number for him in recent years – considering the injuries, poor machinery, and the subsequent financial collapse of the team he rode for. You’d think he’d be happy to race with the number 666 on the front of his bike.
