Valentino Rossi took a commanding victory at the Misano MotoGP after fighting his way to the front from 4th place.
A crash at the second turn at the very start of the race thinned the field out, as Alex De Angelis crashed into Colin Edwards, taking both Edwards and Nicky Hayden out of the race. De Angelis braked his Honda too late into the second corner of the first lap and Edwards and Hayden took the brunt of the resulting collision. The rear of Lorenzo’s bike also got clipped, but it was not significant enough to cause him any issues.
Rossi eventually took the lead on lap 8 from Dani Pedrosa and managed to stretch a relatively comfortable lead that was never really challenged during the race. Lorenzo took second place after getting in front of Pedrosa a few laps after Rossi took the lead.
