250cc World Champion Hiro Aoyama had a solid start to his MotoGP career with a 10th place finish.
AOYAMA FINISHES FIRST GP IN TOP 10
Hiroshi Aoyama finished his first ever MotoGP race with a Top 10 result and achieved the target that the team had set for the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar. After the difficulties of the pre season and the first practice day on the race track in Losail is the tenth place a big step forward. The start of the race was not easy for Aoyama and he lost some positions, but he pushed to the limit and improved step by step, lap by lap. The 28 years old MotoGP Rookie gave everything at his first race in the premier class of motorcycle racing and takes home his first six points in the championship.
Next stop for the MotoGP circus will be the Twin Ring Motegi/Japan. It is the home race for Aoyama and he has his family and fans, who will give him all support. The Grand Prix of Japan will take place in two weeks on 25th of April in Motegi.
Hiroshi Aoyama, 10 — 42’21.100:
This is a good result, not great, but good. I pushed all the 22 laps and I did what I was able to do. I had a horrible start and lost some positions in the first few laps that I had to fight back. Therefore the 10th place is a good result for my first MotoGP race. If I would have had a better start I don’t know where I would have been then. Now I look forward to go home and see my family as I will go straight to Japan for a visit.
Daniel Epp, Team Manager:
Top 10 is our main goal for this season and we achieved it already in qualifying and also in the race today. Maybe we could be even better if the start of Hiro wouldn’t have been so bad. This gives us hope for Motegi.
