Marc Marquez took his first 125cc GP victory in a tactical race in Italy.

It was Nico Terol and Pol Espargaro who made an early break and seemed to be pulling out a gap on the rest of the field. Towards the end of the first quarter of the race, both riders started battling for the lead which gave Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith the chance to close the gap and turn the race into a 4 way battle.

For a while all four riders played a tactical race with no rider really wanting to lead the race or show their cards. The last 4 laps saw a tense battle for the lead with all four riders entering the final straight in single file trying to take advantage of the slipstream, but it was Marc Marquez who was able to hold his position at the front to claim victory. Terol took second, and Espargaro claimed 3rd to give another all-Spanish podium. Bradley Smith finished 4th.
