This video shows some stunning archive footage of the 50cc GP. I love watching those old push starts to races, and it’s quite amazing how close the crowd could get to the action – the concept of a ‘run off’ area like those we see today, was clearly unheard of.

This second clip shows footage that includes video from the Isle of Man TT. Ok, so the bikes don’t go as fast as today, but it is still pretty amazing to watch them on this course with even less safety precautions and hay bales.

This is a video showing the highlights of the 1982 coverage of the 500cc Argentinian Grand Prix from Buenos Aires. Features soem top racing from legends like Sheene, Roberts and Spencer, all in their prime.

Incredible video of the last lap battle between Valentino Rossi and Toni Elias in Estoril in 2006. Elias worked his way up the field in the race and challenged for the lead with Rossi, starting a fantastic battle that ended in a photo finish. Elias was awarded the victory – and arguably it was this performance that secured him a contract for 2007 and kept him in MotoGP.

Great footage of the 2006 Catalunya MotoGP when Ducati riders Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau collide with one another – Capirossi is thrown over the handlebar and gets knocked out cold. The Ducati’s end up taking out Marco Melandri, Randy De Puniet, and Dani Pedrosa in the process. All on the first turn.

This video shows the accident (fortunately none of the riders were too seriously injured), but arguably it caused Loris Capirossi to miss the best opportunity he had of becoming MotoGP World Champion, as he was really starting to show the potential of the Ducati in 2006.

At the time, Livio Suppo (Ducati Team Manager) said:

“The first corner of any race is always tricky. But the fact that both riders came out of such a big crash without serious injuries is a great testament to the protection offered by the latest riding gear. Unfortunately, this is the worst moment of the season to sustain an injury, with three races over three weekends and another two over the next three weekends. Maybe Loris will be able to race at Assen but we can’t be sure when Sete will be ready.

We were unlucky to lose both our riders in the accident. Looking at the lap times, we could have scored some good points today. Our congratulations to Bridgestone who had a much better weekend here than they had here last year, with a fourth-place finish, only 13,4 behind the winner. That proves once again how much they have improved at what was a difficult track for them. Although today was a bad day for us, this fact certainly boosts the team’s mood for the remainder of the season.”

Arguably one of the best motorcycle races of recent years, Troy Bayliss and Colin Edwards brought the WSBK championship battle to the last race of the year in 2002.

500cc Season Review 1989 Assen

Silverstone was the 11th round of the 1981 500cc season and Jack Middelburg won the race. The rest of the 1981 500cc season saw Suzuki riders Marco Lucchinelli and Randy Mamola battle it out to the final race of the season with the Italian rider claiming the crown and Mamola finishing runner-up for the second consecutive year. Barry Sheene would win the final race of his career with a win in Sweden while a young American named Freddie Spencer made his first foray into the GP world, riding the four-stroke Honda NR500 up to fifth place at the British Grand Prix before it broke down.
