The track officals at Valencia are all wearing black armbands with the number 58 on them at Valencia this weekend as a tribute to Marco Simoncelli:

This is the first photograph that has been tweeted of Valentino Rossi’s Marco Simoncelli tribute helmet that he will be wearing on Saturday and Sunday at this weekend’s MotoGP at Valencia.

The design features Simoncelli’s red and white stripes at the front, with a number 58 on the front. The rear of the helmet is the same design as Rossi’s usual ‘AGV Elemets‘ helmet.

Unsurprisingly, the MotoGP riders are all sporting some sort of tribute to Marco Simoncelli this weekend. Most of them have a number 58 somewhere on their leathers or livery, and Valentino Rossi will be wearing a special Simoncelli tribute helmet for Saturday and Sunday.

Below are some of the photos from Valencia showing how some of the riders are opting to show their respect for Marco Simoncelli.

In his final MotoGP race before retirement, Capirossi has opted for the number 58 on the front of his Pramac Ducati:

Alvaro Bautista has a large 58 and a black riddon on the top of his helmet as a tribute to his old 250cc sparring partner.

Valentino Rossi has a number 58 sticker inside his number 46.

Valentino Rossi’s Misano helmet for 2011 (Photos)

As ever, Valentino Rossi has come out to race at Misano with a new custom helmet design.

Past years have seen Rossi wear the Donkey Helmet and the Clock / Wake Up helmet – this year, Valentino Rossi has gone with a speech bubble coming from the inside of his visor that is full of swear words and exclamations.

Given the issues that Rossi has been having with the Ducati, the message is pretty clear.

Jorge Lorenzo’s Top Gun Helmet

“I feel the need…..the need for speed”

Jorge Lorenzo has gone all 1980s for this weekend’s MotoGP at Brno by wearing a custom helmet based on Top Gun.

Lorenzo’s helmet is a copy of the helmet that Tom Cruise’s character, Maverick, wore in the film.

So does this make Ben Spies ‘Goose’?

We are only hours away from the first Free Practice session of the 2011 MotoGP season. This opening round in Qatar is taking place over an extra day, with the 125cc class being the first bikes on the track later today.

The riders are lining up for the official group photos out on a windy Losail circuit, and birtymotogp managed to get a snapshot of the MotoGP class. Check it out below:
