With the British MotoGP moving to Silverstone from 2010, we thought it was high time to revist a classic 500cc GP clip from Silverstone from 1980. This was the 8th race of the 1980 season and Randy Mamola claimed a memorable victory at Silverstone, only to finish runner-up in the overall season standings, as Kenny Roberts finished the season as World Champion.

500cc Grand Prix: Estoril 2001 (Video)

Classic Clips returns with a video of the 2001 500cc race in Estoril.
Estoril was the 11th round of the 2001 500cc season and Valentino Rossi was in dominant form already having won 6 races so far that season. Rossi went on to claim victory in this race also and would go on to win the 500cc World Title.

500cc Grand Prix: Le Mans 2001 (Video)

Another entry in the Classic Clips archive – this time round it’s the condesned highlights of the 2001 French 500cc GP – 2001 was the last year of the 500cc era.

The Le Mans 500cc GP was the 4th round of the season, and Valentino Rossi had won the previous 3 rounds. Rossi would go on to win the Championship, but this race was won by Max Biaggi.

More from the Classic Clips archive – this time it’s the Philip Island 500cc Grand Prix from 1990.

This was the final round of the 1990 season and took place on September 16th. 1990 was the 500cc season that marked the emergence of Wayne Rainey as the dominant force on his Marlboro Yamaha, and he went on to take the 500cc World Championship.

Despite Rainey’s consistent form, he had tough competition throughout the season as can be seen in the Philip Island race - Wayne Gardner took a hard forght win in a race that saw him almost highside himself out of contention, he also struggled with a damaged fairing before battling it out with Doohan in a close race finish.

500cc Grand Prix: Donington 1993 (Video)

Another in our series of classic clips – this time around we have the highlights of the 1993 500cc GP at Donington.

Donington was round 10 of the 1993 500cc GP season and was won by Luca Cadalora. A couple of notable Brits represented their home track in the shape of Carl Fogerty and Niall McKenzie.

It was a race with a ton of incidents – Doohan taking out Schwantz and Barros, Foggy being beaten to the line by McKenzie, and Rainey taking second place despite racing with injuries that he picked up from a highside in an earlier practice session.
